Bacchus Procession, Gubbio.

I visited Gubbio, Italy in November last year (2018) and spent some time in the Palazzo dei Consoli Civic Museum. The museum is impressive. It holds the Eugubine tablets, keys to deciphering the Umbrian language, and an extensive collection of archeological and religious artifacts. Tucked away in a small room in one of its many galleries, I found this painting of a Dionysian procession. I took a picture of this obscure painting (oil on panel), but I failed to photograph the plaque next to it. It’s of a Dionysian procession with panthers, satyrs, maenads, and shows drunken Bacchus himself. This image doesn’t exist anywhere else on the internet, believe me, I’ve looked. I will keep looking for details regarding this painting, but until then, here it is for your enjoyment.
